About Borroso . 2012 I made Borroso for this concert in Zeppelin 2012. Because were asked to use source sounds recorded in Barcelona, Borroso is entirely based on a field recording made in Barcelona by Dutch composer Hans Timmermans (which he published in the freesound archive for other composers to modify and use). Timmermans writes that he recorded a young woman who "presented a love letter to Barcelona at 6:50 a.m., apparently after a rough night... after this declamation she returned to her fourth beer." He processed her voice with several resonators. I further processed his already-resonant version of her voice, creating more and more 'blurred' and abstract versions, finally layering and panning elements from those versions into a piece based on strange, slow motion and mystery. Kala Pierson Kala Pierson Kala Pierson (b. 1977) is an American composer and sound artist. Her music's "seductive textures and angular harmonies" (Washington Post) are "intricately structured, both mathematical and lyrical" (Dnevnik). Much of her music uses text (whether sung by voices or used in other ways), and she focuses on texts of cultural and political significance by living writers, producing works of "marvelous political power" (Louis Andriessen). Her works have been performed and installed in more than 25 countries on six continents, and in festivals including Musica Viva (Portugal), Tanglewood (USA), International Computer Music Conference (USA), and the International Congress on Art and Technology (Brazil). She studied at Eastman School of Music and Bard College at Simon's Rock. Her long-term projects include Axis of Beauty (setting texts by living Middle Eastern writers since 2004, in an ongoing answer to "Axis of Evil" wartime propaganda) and Illuminated (setting texts about sex and sexuality by living writers from a wide range of world cultures).
